Welcome to Kindergarten!

Kindy ready for the Easter Egg HuntOur teachers this year are Mrs Attwood, Mrs Butler, Mrs Kinnear, Mrs Waterford and Miss Koch.

We are a grade of enthusiastic students who have been keen to learn to read and write since the beginning of term one. All of our Kindergarten teachers are currently undertaking training in L3 (Literacy, Language and Learning in the Classroom), and they are so pleased with our results. It is important that we practise our reading and writing at home so that we can become more confident in all areas of Literacy.

In Kindergarten we engage in a variety of Mathematical activities using our Smartboard, classroom computers and hands on learning experiences. We like counting to 100 and using objects to add on, take away, make groups and share into groups.

We love our classrooms and throughout the year we have been decorating them with visual arts activities related to our grade themes. In term one we made characters from Nursery Rhymes and Fairytales and dressed up for a parade in our school hall. In term two we focused on our ‘On the Farm’ unit and in term three we are creating gardens in our rooms with caterpillars, butterflies, worms, snails and frogs. In term four we will be making sea creatures to transform our classrooms into an underwater learning environment.

We enjoy Mini Minstrels music lessons with Mrs Oliver where we sing, play instruments and move to music. Kindergarten are currently preparing two special songs for the Inverell Eisteddfod, where we will go on the stage at the Town Hall to sing for our friends and families in the audience.

When we came to school we learnt about the "You Can Do It!" characters who have helped us become successful and confident learners. Gabby Get Along, Pete PerKK on Nursery Rhyme Daysistence, Connie Confidence, Ricky Resilience and Oscar Organisation have helped us to collect keys for our key books and most of us have achieved awards at assemblies throughout the year.

We like to stay active and healthy by beginning the day with PE and eating our favourite healthy fruit. Each week we participate in a variety of sports activities to develop coordination and movement skills. Later in term 3, we are looking forward to our Infants Athletics Carnival where we can put all our skills into action.

We love coming to school at Ross Hill everyday where we can play with our friends in the "You Can Do It!" garden, read books in the library and use the fixed equipment around the school. Our classrooms are bright, colourful and friendly places for us to learn. In Kindergarten, we enjoy showing visitors the wonderful learning that we do everyday inside and outside our classrooms.

Clay Pigs in the Artroom

On Friday 8th June, KF visited Mrs Walburn in the art room to make clay pigs. This art lesson linked with our learning about Farms and farm animals. We all had lots of fun gettting our hands dirty and learning about clay and how to mould it to specific shapes. Thank you to our helpers on the day; Mrs O'Brien, Tony and Julie, Lea, Jaime, Heidi, Krista and Joanne. A special thank you to Mrs Walburn for her excellent teaching of the skills we needed to make our pigs. We can't wait to do it again!!

Rewards Day

It's hard to believe that our Kindergarten students have been at school for six weeks! They have learnt so much about school already! Nigel at Kindergarten Rewards DayKobi at Kindergarten Rewards Day

During Week 5, the children rotated around all Kindergarten classrooms for special activity time as part of their Rewards Day. It was a great opportunity for all Kindergarten students and teachers to get to know each other and all children enjoyed visiting other classrooms.

Our Kindergarten children are very lucky to have such a great team of Release Teachers on Wednesdays. On this day the students enjoy time in the library, music and sport as well as their regular lessons. Below are some photos taken of the children having a ball in the hall during sport.
