Music Program

Ross Hill Public School offers a number of excellent musicianship opportunities.

This year we have added two highly qualified music teachers who take individual students and small tutorial groups. Mr Nathan Pearse (All brass instruments, keyboard and bass guitar) and Miss Wendy Champion (flute, clarinet and saxophone. Mr Colin McInlay also takes students for drum lessons.

Kindergarten students follow the "Mini Minstrels" program - where an external specialist music teacher gets the children singing and enjoying music at school.

The Ross Hill School Concert Band is a large group of students led by Mr Croft, and is well known for it's excellent performances. The School Concert Band rehearses every Monday before school and is working up a very entertaining repertoire. Our first performance is "A Taste Of Macintyre". We have 15 new instrumentalists who next term will be joining a beginners band.

Indigenous students from grades 3 - 6 have a special opportunity to learn Musicianship through the Indigenous Music Program. This program continues this year with 2 music lessons each week. The group will be performing for the children from K - 2 later on in the year.

Our Music Program Co-ordinator is Geoff Croft.

Band and Instrumental Program

This program is offered to students from grades 4,5 and 6.

45 students have selected a concert band instrument and receive weekly small group lessons.School Band

Specialist tutors for brass and woodwind instruments from the New England Conservatorium of Music (NECOM) have been engaged by the school and by special arrangement , teach small groups in the school during school hours.

These students then become members of either the beginner band or the Ross Hill Public School Concert Band. The bands rehearse weekly and perform at school assemblies and this year the special Education Week ceremony for the Sapphire Community of Schools. The Concert band also competes in the Inverell Eisteddfod and with significant success.

Students can chose string instruments, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, bass guitar or drum kit. Tuition is available for all of these.

Our School Band Director is Geoff Croft.
